About us

Welcome to Cipan, our site in Lisbon (Portugal) with a rich heritage dating back to its founding in 1960. At Cipan, our unwavering commitment to health and well-being has been evident throughout our more than 60-year history. We have earned our place among the top 3 companies in the world for producing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), either through advanced fermentation processes or precise chemical synthesis methods. Our versatile approach positions us as the ideal partner to cater to the unique needs of every customer. Since 2016, Cipan has proudly been a part of the Suanfarma group, further enhancing our capabilities and global reach.

In addition, our own registry department with expertise in the entire value chain of the life cycle of a medicine, offers all its knowledge from development to preparation of the regulatory dossiers for commercialization.

We specialize in the chemistry of complex molecules, not just of the tetracyclines developed in the past, but any kind of CDMO projects to manufacture small molecules for pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical devices. This expertise provides us with a robust and flexible technological platform for our customers’ projects, enhancing their competitiveness in the market.

Our in-depth knowledge extends to fermentation processes, employing a wide array of microorganisms, downstream processing and purification techniques, chemical synthesis processes to manufacture a broad range of molecules including anti-infectives, psychotropics, cannabinoid derivatives, anti-tumoral products, and pharma healthcare and medical device applications.

Cipan is a leading company in the development, production and distribution of small-molecule pharmaceutical APIs for human and animal health.
